Prof. Louis Legendre from Laboratoire d'Oceanographie de Villefranche(LOV)in France started his one-month visit to QIBEBT since June 2nd, which is sponsored by CAS President’s International Fellowship Initiative (PIFI). During his visit, He discussed with the faculty and staff about the cutting edge knowledge and technologies on the research of marine microbial ecology and carbon sequestration, and also exchanged his research experiences with young scholars and taught the students how to write a scientific paper.
In addition, in the “international expert forum” of QIBEBT, Prof. Legendre gave a presentation titled “From marine microbes to ocean biogeochemistry and carbon sequestration”, which focused on large-scale and long-term effects of marine microbes in the ocean, as well as the important roles of marine microbes and phytoplankton in marine carbon biogeochemical cycles.
Also, Prof. Legendre and the young scientists in the Research Center of Marine Biology and Carbon Sequestration, together with his colleague Prof. Sophie Rabouille from LOV, and Prof. Richard Rivkin from Memorial University of Canada Newfoundland, discussed together on the potential collaboration. Prof. Legendre’s visit was warmly welcomed by the Deputy Director of QIBEBT Prof. Xuefeng Lv, Prof. Jian Xu, and Dr. Yongyu Zhang.
Prof. Legendre is world famous senior scientist in marine science. His research fields and topics are biological oceanography and marine biogeochemistry, numerical ecology, and philosophy of science. He had been the director of the Villefranche Oceanography Laboratory (Laboratoire d’oceanographie de Villefranche, LOV) from 2001 through 2010, and has received numerous prizes and honours, such as the International Ecology Institute Prize, and the G. Evelyn Hutchinson Award, etc.
Prof. Legendre’s visit promoted the cooperation between QIBEBT and the France national marine research organization of LOV.
